Default Do You Notice a Rise in Symptoms Prior to Getting Ill?

I recently had a really nasty cold a couple of weeks ago. It's been years since I've had such a rotten cold. Two days before it hit I had a dramatic rise in symptoms. Granted it was short-lived (one evening) and the next day I had what I call my recovery day where I'm absolutely drained and have to rest and not do much else due to fatigue and no energy.

Then the cold came on and lasted for over a week. Granted it was brought into my office by a fellow employee. But generally those type of things bypass me or I get a very mild case of cold/flu.

Does anyone else notice a rise in symptoms prior to getting ill? Does a rise in symptoms (even a short one) reduce your immune system enough to get sick?

Thanks
Lisa

I do, I always thought it was because my body was fighting the bug a few days before I actually got it so I was a little low on energy for PTSD. Same way as I am worse (PTSD) when I'm tired.

Yes, very much so. I often wonder if it is the stress from the PTSD that causes/intensifies a cold, or if it is being sick that causes/intensifies the PTSD symptoms.

I voted no. I have noticed that when I am under alot of stress or anxiety, I do catch colds easier and have them for a longer period of time, my skin acts up and I just don't heal as fast, etc.

I voted yes. Any increase of stress whether it be emotional or physical increases my symptoms. If my symptoms increase and there doesn't seem to be a reason, a reason usually unfolds within a few days. I'll realize I wasn't feeling well, or I haven't slept well, or something was bothering me that I hadn't realized.

My GI tract is directly connected to my PTSD trigger. I have a hiatal hernia, stomach pain, pancreas pain, IBS, GERD, bruxism, liver pain, and rectal pain. All the time.
I am a joy to be around.

That sounds unimaginably awful, 2quilt.

I would have to agree with everyone here too - sickness & trauma must be interlinked. I have had many illnesses due to ptsd, and I know that I will get sick if the ptsd gets worse. Likewise, my ptsd gets worse if I am sick because being sick is part of a trigger (reminds me of times when I was being abused and was sick constantly).

An astounding YES from me. I usually experience an increase in anxiety before becoming ill. This year, I got the "fifth disease" from my daughter, and prior to finding out that both of us had it, I had to be taken to the emergency room for Panic Attacks.

I have never really thought about it, until I read this post. I have been having a bit more anxiety lately, am not sleeping very well either, and now I have a wonderful sore throat, and head cold. Oh the joys of PTSD!!!!!!

I voted unsure cause I don't get sick often enough to pay attention.
