Default Saying Hi - Trying to Get on Top of PTSD From Childhood

Hi there

I just found this forum when googling complex PTSD. I'm both a sufferer and a carer - my long-term partner also has complex PTSD. But I'm here for me, not as a carer (at least for now).

I was diagnosed a few years ago, can't remember when exactly. Dissociation tends to fry my memory. I'm blanking out a bit just writing this. This is the first time I've written any of this on an open forum, so it's a bit scary. Talking about this is quite triggery for me. There's a lot of fear tied up with talking about childhood, although it's gradually getting easier. Part of me knows logically that if I speak I won't be in physical danger, but the part of me that knows that I was sometimes in physical danger as a child if I spoke sometimes has trouble believing that I'm safe now.

PTSD was caused by childhood abuse - physical, sexual and emotional abuse, plus one incident when I was 19. This year has been particularly difficult but I've just started counselling again after a break of a couple of years.

Hmm, that's all I can think of to say just now.

Welcome to the forum.....

Talking and opening up a bit more will really help you, so when you feel comfortable enough to do this it will help you to start a diary...

Thank you both. I started a diary. My first post was way long. Trying to look at all the things I avoid out of fear = long post.
