I was wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with any other disorders/diseased/illnesses along with PTSD? If so, and you feel comfortable, what ones and how does that effect how you feel about yourself?

I've been diagnosed with
PTSD, Dissociative Identity Disorder (though it's much more under control now), Major Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, anorexia (though I no longer am), and depending on which therapist you ask, Borderline Personality Disorder.

Most of the diagnoses don't change my self perception that much and I realize that a lot of them are different manifestations of the PTSD. Sometimes, when looking at the list, I just think there must have been something "wrong" with me from birth to have "so many" problems for so long. I try to remind myself that it's not my fault I'm like this but it's so hard.

My original diagnosis was Major Depression. After that went into remission and I actually discussed my past with my therapist, he switched it to PTSD. My psychiatrist originally diagnosed an adjustment disorder but also switched it to PTSD. At least they agree!

I'm kinda like kers. I was first diagnosed with major depression but now my main diagnosis is PTSD. I am fighting hard with the VA to change my diagnosis but, with them it's a crap shoot.

I've been diagnosed with dysthymia (spelling?) but at different times have also been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. I've also been diagnosed with Agoraphobia.

I'm almost certain I have bipolar II disorder, but my therapists insist it's the PTSD.

I as well have been diagnosed with organic brain syndrome. I have some mild OCD nothing debilitating but it can be frustrating, I count stairs, floor tiles and windows in rectangular buildings. kinda weird.

I started trying to get some sort of help for myself when I was 17 (I'm now 44), so went through myriad diagnoses, none of which ever fit well. Borderline schizoid was the first one (when I was 19) after which came a mixed bag, depending on the bias/view of the therapist/doctor: eating disordered, gen. anxiety disorder, alcoholic, self-injurer, BPD, disocciative disorder, social phobia, avoidant personality disorder, and finally, a few years ago, PTSD.

Then, about 6-8 months ago, I was dx'd with C-PTSD, which fits me to a 'T' as it encompasses most every behavior/coping mechanisms I've developed (both helpful and harmful).

I've been diagnosed with:
Axis I:
ADHD, combined type
Reading disorder
Disorder of Written Expression
Math disorder
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (this was mainly as a kid, not sure if it still applies or if it's gotten crossed off the list finally)
Learning Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified
Specific Phobia
PTSD
I was anorexic... forced in to recovery, went to the other end of bulima for a while. Went back to a normal weight for a while, haven't been doing so good with the eating again. See a specialist for it again starting this week. Luckily it sounds like this one knows what she's talking about, and won't just make me eat without dealing with the mental aspects of it like the others did. So I think I'm considered EDNOS right now, cuz I fit everything for the anorexia other than my BMI, which is at the low end of healthy.

But really, a diagnosis is just a label, I really hate labels. I don't really go by them and I try not to let them define who I am or influence me.

Mick, you are are not weird. Your brain counts to keep away the pain. My brain calculates numbers for the same reason. If you want to, ask your self what are you avoiding? hard ? to ask even harder ? to answer. May your suffering be reduced.
