Hey Nic,

Canada Day is Canada's national holiday, like Independence Day in the U.S. I think Canada Day commemorates the day in 1868 when Ontario, Quebec, and some east coast provinces were formed into a more independent entity under British dominion (it used to be called Dominion Day). Is this right, Canadian history buffs?

Hey All....for those interested....the proper way to explain Canada Day is.......

Canada Day is frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday," the occasion marks the joining of the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces, the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec on July 1, 1867.

However, though Canada is regarded as having become a kingdom in its own right on that date, the British Parliament at first kept limited rights of political control over the new country, which were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were ended in 1982, when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution. Canada Day thus differs from Independence Day celebrations in other countries in that it does not commemorate a clear-cut date of complete independence.

Hey Hodge no problem. My very intelligent school teacher wife gave me the answer. (Thank you sweetie!!)

In reality, Canada Day means something different for every Canadian. For us, (my wife and I) it means a day to celebrate being Canadian and being blessed to live in Canada.

Personally as I have a family member serving in the military, I also give thanks to those who serve and those that have served our Country.

On a lighter note the editorial cartoon in today's newspaper stated that Canada Day is a chance for Canadians to come together as a people to celebrate our heritage and to complain about the price of gas!!

Yeah, I think we'll be doing that this coming weekend, too.
