Default It's Independence Day in the U.S. . . .

and I wish everyone a nice Fourth of July and hope for better times in the U.S.

On past Independence Days, I've made it a point to remember and appreciate what this holiday means on national and international levels. This year I'm still doing that, but also find myself drawn to thinking about my personal level of independence and my struggle to regain more of it.

Hmm . . . how weird. The news just came out that former Senator Jesse Helms died this morning.

More than 180 years ago, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams -- two major figures in the making of independence -- both died in 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Fourth of July. That was really weird.
